It was a dark and stormy night

This year’s Bulwer-Lytton contest winners have been announced. This one is my favourite:

As the dark and mysterious stranger approached, Angela bit her lip anxiously, hoping with every nerve, cell, and fiber of her being that this would be the one man who would understand—who would take her away from all this—and who would not just squeeze her boob and make a loud honking noise, as all the others had.

  1. The executioner sneered as the young queen ascended the stairs to the guillotine; in the old days, he thought, at least there was some buildup, a little time on the rack or some disemboweling, but nowadays everyone wants instant gratification.

I think someone could actually write a pretty excellent comedy starting with that.

I thought that that one was a bit Pratchetty.

It is a bit, yeah :)

  4. Wouldn’t put it past Pratchett to enter under a pseudonym.

Thanks for that. No, really. Any tips for cleaning this beer off my screen?

Heh. I love that competition – there are always a few entries that crack me up.
