Apple’s quietly updated the iMac line, with a new – and absolutely massive – 24-inch widescreen model at £1,349 including VAT. Spec’s pretty decent: 2.16GHz core duo, 1GB RAM, 250GB hard disk and an 8x SuperDrive. Nice.

MacRumours and their ilk should all start contacting me when they have something to speculate on. “Tony, bought any new kit recently?”
I think this is about the fourth time.
If it’s any consolation, it’s happened with every single Mac or PC I’ve ever bought.
So what’s your first impressions of yer iMac?
I’m just getting to the point where I’ve stopped pressing the remote and giggling like a kid. So far so good. Been watching DVD’s thinking this is huuuuuuge.
Gonna sort networking it to the other machines in the house, get windows on it, mess about with the software that’s new to me (Garageband etc)
Garageband couldn’t be more of a hoot if all its instruments were voiced by owls.
They introduced midi editting yet?
Yep, I think so.
All very nice, but wasn’t the iMac invented as an affordable entry-level thing?
That’s the Mini’s role these days (that’s been beefed up too). Basic iMac’s had a price cut too.
Yeah, I know. Just nostalgic, that’s all.
