Ho ho ho

It seems that everyone is already winding down for Xmas, so this is probably a good time to wish you all a very merry Christmas, a riotous Hogmanay and a happy and successful 2007.

Is this legal?

My knowledge of media law - or at least, the bits that don’t really apply to my particular niche - is rather rusty, but isn’t there some law that prevents identification of suspects? Today’s Sun can’t be legal, surely?

A missed promotional opportunity

The Sun’s been uncharacteristically reticent in its coverage of the Suffolk murder arrest: while describing the arrested man’s internet profile and quoting liberally from it, The Sun neglected to mention that the “social networking site” in question was MySpace.

What, I wonder, would prevent The Sun (prop. R Murdoch) from naming MySpace (prop. R Murdoch)?

Wii will rock you

David brought his Wii round at the weekend. It’s genius. Sheer family-friendly, great after lots of wine, makes your wife say “we need to get one of these” genius.

Too old, too ugly, too far away

Bah. From the Girls Aloud mailing list (of course I’m on it):

Want to take part in the next Comic Relief view with Girls Aloud and Sugababes? We are looking for guys and girls of every ethnicity to take part in a Girls Aloud vs. Sugababes music video! You need to be over 16 - with either a ‘Rock’ or ‘R&B’ style. We are filming on Tuesday 19th December at a London location…”

Insert your own “I know the kind of Girls Aloud vs. Sugababes video Gary would like to appear in” joke here… giggling aside, though, this has the potential to be either utterly appalling or the greatest pop moment in the history of the world, ever. I suspect it’ll be the former.

Does it hurt when you Wii?

Best blog headline ever? I think so.

Anyway - BBC Radio Scotland’s MacAulay & Co show is doing a piece on Monday about Wiinjuries, so if you’ve smacked yourself silly while playing Wii Sports then I’m sure they’d love to hear from you.

Photoshop CS3 beta due out later today

And it’s looking nifty. The beta will be available for Windows and Mac, and the latter version is apparently very fast on Intels.

Update

It’s out, but you’ll need the serial from a legit copy of CS2, production studio, web bundle or video bundle if you want to run it for more than 2 days.

More Dianaballs

eBay: Dianaballs

With crushing inevitability, eBay’s pulling auctions of tickets for the Diana concert. eBay says it’s out of respect for the dead Di, but of course it’s out of respect for eBay’s corporate image: if the usual rentagobs hadn’t caused a blizzard of publicity - “eBay’s profiting from cloth-eared sentimentalists!” - they’d have left the auctions up.

This annoys me immensely because loads of charity gigs are touted on eBay, and the firm doesn’t give a toss. It also annoys me because the very existence of eBay means that, unless you’re very quick and very lucky, already-overpriced gigs are even more expensive.

I’d be more impressed by eBay’s response to the Diana furore if it didn’t spend its adwords budget on things like this:

National Elf Service

My brother has hilariously stuck my photo on to a dancing elf. Mrs Bigmouth’s reaction? “Hahahahah! That’s how you dance!”

I hate Christmas.
