On the other hand, they certainly do better than Marv at parties, when the hardships fade into the alcoholic stupor, and they start to believe what the shiny-eyed women gathered around them are saying... Specifically, the "getting the bass drum right" bit of the soundcheck. Load in at 4pm, sit around till 6.30pm, listen to the kick drum till 7.45pm, cram all the rest of the soundcheck in (three bands, four if you're unlucky) by 8.30pm, hang around till 9.30pm, listen to other bands you don't really like until 10.30pm, go onstage, discover the sound engineer's pissed off and left an understudy so the soundcheck was wasted, play to three drunks and a murderer, go offstage again, spend two hours dismantling the gear and another two hours getting it home.
